She would describe herself has a.....: Mysterious, smily, open-minded, curious girl.
She
would put on a Whitney Houston record, and sing on front of her mirror. With
a brush, a bottle, a TV remote, anything
that could be a microphone, little Valerie would give the Showtime of her life
for her audience (her own reflection in the
mirror).
At 10 years old, she wanted to be a famous actress like Angelet Basset and play
the fatal woman in a middle of
a hoodlum. But acting wasn't really for her. Until she founds about her real
passion for music.
When
little Valerie grew up and went to high school, she knew she wanted to dedicated
her life to music. Her first
appearence was in April 1995, when she sang for a school contest. She won, her
and another
talented singer at her school named Kenneth, of course with honor and appreciation.
In
1996, she first started her piano lessons. Teacher would give her some nice
Chopin, Vivaldi and Brahms valses, but
Valerie rather played popular songs, like Hero, On Bended Knee or Everything
I Do I Do It For You. She also started
playing the guitar in her third year of high school. It was music, yes, but
it was nothing like singing, as she wanted to do.
In
1997, Valerie met her first music co-worker, Snake. Snake was a white rapper
trying to make it in the streets.
He first really believed in her talent and propose her to duet him in some rap
songs.
Snake and herself did only one frech songs togheter.
Then
came Prozak the suspicious. Prozak was one of them rappers also. He introduce
her to a group of Latino rappers named
Logi-cal,
That's when Maalikah was born. Her new arabic aka was easily adopted by her pairs. (Malika, meaning Queen in arabic)
Logi-cal and Maalikah did one english song entitled «Before U Die».
